Thank you for using StainyNotes. The protection of your personal data is very important to us. Below, we inform you in detail about the handling of your data.

1. Data Controller

The data controller in the sense of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is reachable via:

2. Principle of Data Minimization

StainyNotes was developed according to the principle of data minimization. This means that, in principle, no personal data is collected or processed that is not necessary for the app's functionality.

3. Data Processing when Using the App

a) Local Storage

All content you create or import in the app, such as documents, files, images is stored exclusively locally on your device. This data does not leave your device unless you activate the synchronization function. The data stored on the device is not separately encrypted.

b) Optional Synchronization with Google Drive

You have the option to synchronize your documents with your personal Google Drive account to back them up. This function is deactivated by default and must be explicitly activated by you.

Activation: When you activate synchronization, you authenticate directly with Google. StainyNotes then receives permission to access its own app folder in your Google Drive but no files outside this folder. To link your account, your name, email address, Google username, and profile picture are transmitted from Google to the app. This information is only used for the active synchronization to manage the connection.
Data Transfer: During synchronization, your notes and attachments are transferred to Google's servers via TLS encryption and stored in your personal Google Drive storage.
Third-Party Provider: The service provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. By using Google Drive synchronization, you are subject to Google's privacy policy. You can view it here: https://policies.google.com/privacy

You can deactivate synchronization at any time in the app settings.

Crucially, all data stored in Google Drive is solely under your control and within your personal Google Drive account. We, as the developers of StainyNotes, do not have access to this data.

4. Purpose of Data Processing

The processing of the above-mentioned data takes place exclusively for the following purposes:

Provision of the app's core functions: creating, saving, and managing notes.
Enabling optional data synchronization and backup at the user's request.

There is no analysis of user behavior, no creation of user profiles, and no use of the data for advertising purposes.

5. Duration of Storage

Locally Stored Data: The data stored on your device remains until you delete it yourself or uninstall the app. We as the developers of Stainy Notes don’t have any access or information about the stored data.
Data Stored in Google Drive: The data stored in your Google Drive account remains even after uninstalling the app. As this data is in your personal storage, you are solely responsible for its management and deletion. StainyNotes no longer has access to it after uninstallation or disabling of the sync functionality. We as the developers of Stainy Notes have no access to the data you store in your Google Drive.

6. Your options as a user

You can only erase, restrict processing of, access, move, view, and correct your locally stored data yourself like this:

Stored data is the data visible in the app.
You can correct or move the data with the app’s tools.
You can erase the stored data or restrict processing of your data by uninstalling the app.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.

7. Protection of Minors

The use of StainyNotes is not intended for persons under 16 years of age. In Germany, consent to the processing of personal data is only effective upon reaching the age of 16. If you are younger, the consent of your legal guardians is required.

8. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to adapt this privacy policy so that it always complies with current legal requirements or to implement changes in app functions. You will be informed about changes to this Privacy Policy by an in-app popup.
